SAN JOSE – A months-long investigation into an illegal gambling operation in San Jose culminated last week in the arrest of a 26-year-old man and the seizure of more than a dozen guns, including seven rifles with illegal modifications, police said.
Officers initially served a search warrant at a home in the 2700 block of Cramer Circle on Dec. 30, according to San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih. Four people were arrested for outstanding warrants, as well as on suspicion of illegal gambling and other crimes. Officers also seized multiple gambling machines and narcotics.
Police later discovered the residence was still being used for an illegal gambling operation. Shih said officers served another warrant and seized more gambling machines.
To keep the operation from returning, officers continued their investigation to find the person responsible, Shih said, adding that the 26-year-old man was ultimately identified as a suspect. Officers obtained warrants for his arrest and to search his residence.
On April 30, officers found the man in San Jose and arrested him on suspicion of various crimes, including firearms offenses, Shih said.
Shih said a search of the suspect’s residence turned up 10 handguns, seven illegally modified rifles, a shotgun, several extended magazines, thousands of rounds of ammunition, gun manufacturing parts, butterfly knives, brass knuckles, $51,000 in cash and gold bullion. He was later booked into Santa Clara County jail.
