SAN JOSE — A 40-year-old San Jose man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing nearly $8,000 worth of golf balls from chain stores across Santa Clara County, police said.
A total of 28 thefts happened between March 25 and May 5 in Cupertino, San Jose, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, according to San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih.
Shih said organized retail theft investigators identified the 40-year-old San Jose man as the primary suspect and determined he was reselling the stolen golf balls online.
On May 6, investigators found the man in San Jose and arrested him on suspicion of grand theft. A search of his home also turned up stolen golf balls, according to Shih.
The man was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose, Shih said.
