Divers recovered the body of a person who drowned on Sunday afternoon at a park in San Jose.
The name of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.
Santa Clara County Parks rangers were originally alerted to the situation of “a person in distress in the water” in Cottonwood Lake at Hellyer County Park at around 1:40 p.m. Sunday, according to a social media post from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
“Sheriff’s deputies responded alongside the San Jose Fire Department,” the post continues. “The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and Underwater Search Unit were called in and conducted a coordinated search of the lake.
“During the operation, a body was found and the individual was pronounced dead at 4:11 p.m.”
It is still unclear, at this time, why the person had entered the lake, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
There will be an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner.
