A brush fire along southbound Interstate 280 in San Mateo County sent thick smoke across the area Tuesday afternoon and briefly blocked a freeway lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fire was first reported about 1:12 p.m. near the southbound I-280 connector to Highway 35, just north of the Doran Memorial Bridge. Several callers reported seeing smoke and smelling something burning near the right shoulder, including around Bunker Hill and the Black Mountain area west of the freeway.
A CHP unit reached the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m. and reported that the fire was blocking the No. 4 lane, the logs show.
The call was transferred to fire crews, including San Mateo County fire dispatch.
No injuries were listed in the dispatch information. The cause of the fire, its size and whether lanes remained affected later Tuesday afternoon were not immediately clear.
