Meta Platforms revealed plans to slash well over 600 jobs in the Bay Area, while NetApp will trim dozens more positions, as downsizing in the Bay Area tech sector continues.

Affecting workers at offices in Fremont, Burlingame, and San Francisco, Meta Platforms intends to eliminate 671 jobs on July 22, WARN letters on file with the Employment Development Department show.

Among the cuts, 338 will be in Burlingame, 252 in San Francisco, and 81 in Fremont’s Ardenwood district, the WARN letters show.

“Separations resulting from this action are expected to be permanent,” Meta Platforms stated in its WARN letter. “None of the above-described affected employees are represented by any union. Separated employees are not permitted to displace remaining employees based on seniority or any other factor.”

NetApp, a cloud-based data storage and management company, will cut 77 jobs at its headquarters at Santana Row in West San Jose, the company’s WARN notice on file with the EDD shows.

The permanent cuts are to take place on July 18, the company reported to the EDD.

So far in 2026, NetApp has revealed decisions to slash 1,190 jobs in the Bay Area, this news organization’s review of the company’s WARN filings determined.
