Voters in some Long Beach and South Bay area cities will elect new mayors and city council members during the June 2 election, with some towns also having races for treasurer and city clerk.

Here’s who’s running for what and where during the upcoming election.

Avalon

Avalon, on Catalina Island, has four people running for mayor and another four vying for two seats on the City Council.

Incumbent Mayor Anni Marshall will try to win reelection against former Councilmember Cinde Cassidy, as well as Daniel Felts and Grayson Kline.

As for the City Council race, Michael Ponce is the only incumbent and is trying to win reelection against challengers Donna Lopez, Jessica Romero and Bre Bussard. The top-two vote getters will be elected to the council.

The mayor serves a two-year term, while council members serve for four years.

Compton

Compton has a packed slate of candidates running for mayor and City Council District 2, while the remaining three races are two-person affairs.

Mayor Emma Sharif is running for reelection against four challengers: Inez Adkins, Omar Bradley, Leroy Guillory, Anthony Moultrie, Andre Spicer and Marlow Wilkerson.

The northeastern Council District 2, meanwhile, has six candidates — but no incumbent. The candidates are Darrell Carter, Jace Dawson, Skyy Fisher, Alin Hamade, Anthony Perry and Bennie Tinson.

Councilmember Jonathan Bowers is running to once again represent District 3, which comprises a large swath of the city’s southwest, against challenger Randall Hooks.

In two other citywide races, incumbent City Clerk Satra Zurita is running for reelection against Lynne Boone, while Treasurer Brandon Mims is trying to retain his seat against Maxwell Burke.

All elected officials serve four-year terms.

Gardena

In Gardena, there are four elected positions up for grabs — with the mayoral race pitting the incumbent against a current City Council member.

In that race, Mayor Tasha Cerda is vying for reelection against Councilmember Wanda Love.

The City Council, meanwhile, has one incumbent and four challengers running for two seats. The candidates are Councilmember Rodney Tanaka, Valerie Loduem, Alan Chan, Jeff Fukasawa and Julie Nystrom.

There is no incumbent running for treasurer and only two candidates, Kale Morita and Tahron Jackson.

The winners will serve four-year terms.

Paramount

In Paramount, four candidates are running for two open City Council seats — with two of them incumbents,

Councilmembers Annette Delgadillo and Peggy Lemons will try to retain seats on dais against challengers Yesenia Cuarenta and Alfredo Bañuelos.

The winners will serve four years on the council.

Lakewood

Lakewood technically has three seats up for grabs during the election — but District 1 Councilmember Todd Rogers and Mayor Cassandra Chase, who represents District 5, are running unopposed.

District 2, however, is competitive. Incumbent Councilmember Steve Croft is trying to win reelection against four challengers: Carlos Aguilar, Manuel Jimenez, Ahmed Rafi, Laura Sanchez-Ramirez and Rudy Villarreal.

The winner will serve a four-year term.
