Our heroes’ names are Galileo and Scaramouche. The villain? Killer Queen.

In “We Will Rock You,” the 2002 musical drawn from the music of Queen, Earth is called iPlanet, and conformity reigns. Free musical expression is forbidden, but a young maverick or two can’t resist their flaming artistic impulses.

Call it “Footloose,” but set 300 years in the future and with more glam in its rock.

Also, here it’s the rebels, not the oppressors, who take up the mantle of spirituality. They have a prophecy, sacred text (i.e., Queen lyrics) and a religious pilgrimage to undertake (to the ruins of Wembley Stadium, where “Queen at Wembley” was shot).

For San Jose Stage Company, Will Detlefsen directs the musical featuring such hits as “Somebody to Love,” “Fat Bottomed Girls,” “Radio Ga Ga” and “I Want to Break Free.”
