Authorities briefly closed a small stretch of Highway 101’s northbound lane in San Jose on Sunday afternoon during a police standoff that led to the arrest of an armed suspect.
The highway lane remained shut down for roughly an hour between Blossom Hill Road and Hellyer Avenue, with traffic being redirected onto surface streets. It reopened at 3:38 p.m. after authorities had declared the area safe.
Officers first responded around 1:07 p.m. to a report that the suspect was trespassing on private property along the 4200 block of Dove Road, a small frontage street that sits across the highway from a local park.
Police released few details about the suspect, described as a man armed with a knife who was behaving erratically.
The ensuing standoff — in which police negotiated with the man — lasted roughly an hour before he was taken into custody, authorities said.
The temporary highway closure led traffic to briefly slow down Sunday afternoon.
