E-waste collection

The Ainsley House is hosting an e-waste and recycling collection event on June 20 for community members who want to responsibly dispose of old electronics or recycle plastic bottles and cans. The event is set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the gravel lot of the Ainsley House, located at 300 Grant St. in  Campbell.

Items that will be accepted for e-waste recycling include desktop and laptop computers, wires and cables, plasma and LCD monitors, printers, audio and video players, tablets, televisions, keyboards and accessories, telephones, small (12″ x 12″) home appliances, PDAs, CRT monitors, copy and fax machines, cell phones and accessories, and servers.

Items that will not be accepted inlcude microwaves and  toasters, household batteries, fluorescent tubes, copiers, ovens, VHS tapes, light bulbs, wood, furniture, large appliances, printer cartridges, paint, CDs and DVDs, washers and dryers, printer toners, metal, floppy drives and refrigerators.

Poetic work

Anyone interested in becoming the ninth Santa Clara County Poet Laureate can attend an informational workshop at the Milpitas Library on July 7.

The Santa Clara County Library District, in partnership with SVCREATES and support from Poetry Center San José, is accepting applications starting July 6 for the 2027-28 poet laureate, an honorary post that acts as an advocate for poetry, literature and the arts and takes part in public readings and civic events. The next poet laureate will receive a stipend of $6,000 per year.

The Milpitas workshop is set for 6:30-7:30 p.m.; no registration is required. There is also an online information session planned for July 10, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Register at https://bit.ly/49zWhmq.
