SAN JOSE — As passenger trips have plunged in the South Bay, Delta Airlines is set to provide new daily nonstop flights that will connect San Jose Mineta International Airport with Austin, Texas, city officials said.

The new service to Austin Bergstrom International Airport is slated to begin Oct. 6 and will bring Delta’s total daily departures to 23, officials said.

“This new nonstop service strengthens the connection between our communities, making it easier for businesses to collaborate, talent to move freely, and visitors to experience all that San Jose and Silicon Valley have to offer,” San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said. “San Jose and Austin are two of the nation’s most dynamic centers for innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.”

The daily service will be operated by an Airbus A319 aircraft and will offer the only option for premium seating between San Jose and Austin’s airport.

“Austin has consistently been one of the most requested destinations from our passengers,” San Jose Director of Aviation Mookie Patel said.
