Giant campaign
With only 3 percent of the U.S. population donating blood each year, the blood supply for lifesaving patient care is at critically low levels. While blood donations across the United States have declined this summer, donor eligibility has expanded in recent years.
“If you’ve been unable to donate in the past, you may now be able to give,” said Dr. Suchi Pandey, chief medical officer of Stanford Blood Center, in a release. “And demand for blood is constant, so we always need more people willing to become first-time donors.”
Throughout August, anyone who donates at Stanford Blood Center’s (SBC) mobile drives or centers—including the South Bay Donor Center in Campbell—will get an official San Francisco Giants jersey with a button-down front, an embroidered official Giants logo on the chest and a Stanford Blood Center logo on the sleeve.
Donors should be in good health with no cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms, and should eat well and drink fluids prior to donation. Donors should bring a photo ID and must be at least 17 years of age, or 16 with a parent or guardian’s consent.
