San Jose fire crews knocked down a three-alarm blaze that ravaged a downtown San Jose tire shop early Tuesday, with crews employing an aerial firefight to “limit damage to neighboring buildings,” a department spokesman said.
Department spokesman Jake Pisani said the arson unit is investigating the cause of the fire at Baja Tires at 35 E. William St. between First and Second streets.
Multiple people in the area reported the fire at 5:33 a.m. By the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the unreinforced masonry building was fully engulfed and flames had already burned through the roof. A third alarm was called at 5:50 a.m.
The fire was knocked down at 6:53 a.m.
