Two bodies have been found in the Dominguez Channel area in recent days, a man on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and the day before a girl estimated to have been 6 and 13 years old.

The man’s body was found around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive person alongside the Dominguez Channel in the 2100 block of East Sepulveda Boulevard.

The Sheriff’s Department reported that another body was found in the channel near the Victoria Golf Course in Carson the day before, at about noon, floating, close to the Dominguez Channel Bike Path in the 20000 block of South Avalon Boulevard.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner determined the girl was four-foot-four to four-foot-eight and weighed 60 to 85 pounds. She had dark-brown or black hair and brown eyes.

Sheriff’s officials said the girl was in a state of “severe decomposition.” It was unclear if any foul play was suspected.

“Investigators learned a patron at a local golf course, which runs along the Dominguez Channel, saw the girl floating downstream and called emergency services,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

Authorities asked that anyone with information about the bodies call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or at lacrimestoppers.org.

More information will be provided by the Sheriff’s Department Thursday morning, Sept. 3.
