South Asian New Works
EnActe Arts and SJSU King Library are presenting a South Asian New Works Festival on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the library, 150 E. San Fernando St. in downtown San Jose.
The free festival features staged readings of new plays including “Lost Waters” by Nayantara Nayar and “Phantasmagoria” by Deepika Arwind). The documentaries “Seat at the Table” and “Burqa Boxers” will be screened; the first film explores leadership and representation, while the second follows young Muslim women in Kolkata breaking barriers through boxing. Visual artists Ria Sharma and Priyanka Rana will discuss their creative processes via an interactive panel

ALMADEN/CAMBRIAN: Vitalant is holding blood drives in San Jose during National Preparedness Month in September. All donors in September will receive a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt in time for Halloween.
Blood drives are set for Monday, Sept. 14, noon-4:45 p.m., at Cambrian Park Church of the Nazarene, 2575 Coit Drive; Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1-4:30 p.m., at Almaden Golf and Country Club, 6663 Hampton Drive; and Friday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the San Jose Elks Lodge, 444 W. Alma Ave.
