SAN JOSE — Chick-fil-A has decided to lease a site for a new San Jose restaurant that would be part of a large mixed-use development, in a deal that marks a fresh local expansion for the dining chain.
The restaurant firm signed a lease for a new building at 4400 Stevens Creek Blvd. in West San Jose, documents on file in Santa Clara County show.
The building would total 5,200 square feet and occupy a 0.7-acre parcel, say documents on file with San Jose city planners. The restaurant would include a drive-through, outdoor seating and a surface parking lot.
The lease for the 4400 Stevens Creek site began on Sept. 11 and was slated to last 15 years. The rental agreement includes provisions for as many as an additional 25 years in extensions of the lease, the county real estate files show.
Chick-fil-A has been in expansion mode in San Jose, including the company’s $4.5 million purchase in 2023 of a surface parking lot at 3123 Silver Creek Road. That restaurant is now open.
The restaurant chain has also proposed a restaurant at 4785 Hamilton Ave. atop a surface parking lot in southwest San Jose next to the Westgate Center shopping mall.
Also in the proposal stage is a Chick-fil-A at 1301 West San Carlos St. in San Jose, on a site between the city’s downtown and the mega shopping hubs at Santana Row and Westfield Valley Fair.
In 2019, members of San Jose’s LGBTQ+ community rallied against plans for a Chick-fil-A at San Jose International Airport following accusations that the restaurant chain’s owners supported anti-gay causes.
The Chick-fil-A on Stevens Creek Boulevard would be part of a large mixed-use village known as Stevens Creek Promenade that would include hundreds of apartments and a 250-room hotel, city documents show.
The development has undergone multiple revisions. The latest version of the proposals for Stevens Creek Promenade sketched out a plan to develop a 173-unit affordable apartment hub as the first housing phase for the project.
