After serving Greek and Mediterranean fare for 17 years, the family that owns and operates the popular Agape Grill & Bar in Sunnyvale will serve their final moussaka, gyro and lamb plates tonight and midday Friday.

They will close the doors at 2:30 p.m. and then get right back to work — on their search for a new home.

The landlord has sold the property to developers who are planning to build 28 townhomes on the site, according to restaurant owner Sabah Francis.

“We are looking for a new location within 10 to 12 minutes of our current location to retain our lunch customers,” he said, “but every lease we’ve seen so far has been very inflated.”

The family — Sabah; his wife, Hanan; and their children, Allen, Brandon and Cynthia Francis — are hoping to see many of their customers this week before what they hope is a successful transition.

“We just want to thank all of our customers throughout the years,” he said. “They have always been very supportive and our restaurant has been a tech hub for meetings and the community coming together.”

Agape has been able to accommodate 200 diners inside and about 50 people on the patio, according to the WhatNow website, which first reported the closing. Because it was so spacious, the restaurant frequently hosted special occasion events including engagement parties, small weddings, reunions, fundraisers and birthday dinners.

Francis said any updates on a new location will be posted on the restaurant’s website. Customers who want to be notified personally may send their contact information to eat@agapegrill.com.
