Admiral Maltings and The Rake

A malt house on the West end of Alameda is shuttering, as well as its pub room. Admiral Maltings and The Rake announced that the last day of making malt beer is Oct. 2, and that The Rake taproom will close on October 18. “We’ve treasured the connections and community we’ve created with California farmers, the breweries and distilleries we’ve worked with, and everyone who helped us revive and innovate the craft of floor-malting. Helping revitalize a sustainable, California-rooted small grain economy, connecting with our customers, enjoying your beers and spirits, and seeing brands built around California floor malt has been incredibly rewarding. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t make and sell malt economically.” Admiral Maltings and The Rake at Admiral Matlings, 651A W Tower Ave., Alameda

Gong Cha (temporary?)

A bubble tea spot in Alameda is temporarily closed for remodeling. Gong Cha, a popular chain, opened in Alameda in 2023. The windows are currently papered over. Though Yelpers reported it as permanently closed, a Redditor said that the owners plan to reopen it. Another Redditor said it may be a part an announced overhaul of all Gong Cha locations. Peppermint Baguette (temporary?)

The casual spot also serves street snacks like popcorn chicken, eggrolls, and egg puff waffles. Peppermint Baguette, 2353 Santa Clara Ave., Alameda
