Prop. 40 won’t lead to nightmare scenarios

Re: “Taxing billionaires nationally avoids ruining local job hubs” (Page A6, Sept. 22).

Very clever scare tactic response — “the Billionaire Tax isn’t good enough, so don’t do it. In fact, it may be bad.” What a crock. As if Sergey Brin and Larry Page wouldn’t have started Google if a billionaire tax existed. They were college kids.

And as for some billionaires possibly leaving California — great. Anybody that rich who is so greedy as to disrupt their life for a roundoff error on their net worth is a sociopath. We don’t need them. Their money is corrupting our government, and they are so good at protecting their wealth that their taxes are a roundoff error on our state budget anyway.

And as for reduced job creation — hasn’t the author noticed we have a surplus of jobs? How is adding more jobs going to solve serious issues like housing? It will only make everything worse.

Republicans clearly don’t understand communism

Re: “Trump decries Democrats as ‘communists,’ even as he looks to impress China’s communist leader” (Sept. 21).

Republicans are now calling for measures to prevent communism from taking over the country — obviously without understanding what “communism” means. Disregarding how certain world leaders use the word to scare people for their own purposes, it simply means state ownership and control of production and distribution of goods and services. How in the world could that even be possible in this country, with private ownership so widespread, honored and time-tested?

Communism means  “State ownership of the means of production and distribution.” That’s all, and quite common even here — in the free enterprise, capitalistic USA.

Voters must respond to Trump’s election abuse

Re: “Trump can use voter database” (Page A1, Sept. 26).

Here are three ways to respond to Trump’s voter challenge:

Deception: Register as a Republican but vote Democratic. Rebellion: Go into the streets and demonstrate. Due Process: If your right to vote is challenged, demand notice, take the matter to a hearing and have an impartial judge or jury decide the issue. Due Process is guaranteed under the Fifth Amendment of our Constitution.

A one-party system, be it Republican or Democrat, will only serve the interests of a tyrant. America is being divided; we need to unite. Using the protections granted to us under the Constitution, we’ll win.

25th Amendment looms over Trump’s arch plan

Re: “Trump says planned arch would host drones, snipers” (Page A3, Sept. 21).

A “victory arch hosting drones and snipers” is either the play-fantasy of a 5-year-old boy building a fort of Lego blocks for his toy soldiers, or the psychotic ramblings of an old man who is no longer tethered to reality.

Just what would these drones and snipers be protecting at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery — the graves of deceased military veterans?

Since the old man in question has access to the nuclear war start button, an immediate, complete psychiatric assessment is in order to determine if the 25th Amendment needs to be implemented before we all die in a global thermonuclear war.
