Sugar Skull 5k
Milpitas residents can celebrate life at a Día de Muertos Health and Wellness Fair and Sugar Skull 5K set for Saturday, Oct. 24, , 9-11 a.m., at Gill Memorial Park.
Local organizations offering physical and mental health services, childcare and social services are invited to apply for a free booth at the wellness fair, which will also feature traditional crafts and face painting for children ages 3–12, along with dances, music and food.Visitors are also invited to bring a photo of a loved one to add to the community ofrenda.

Doing ‘Justice’ with art
Santa Clara County high school students are invited to create an original design that will be transformed into a plush toy or other comforting item for abused children. The toy will be given to children at the soon-to-open South County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) in Morgan Hill and the existing San Jose CAC.
Students are encouraged to submit original artwork reflecting the CAC’s commitment to creating a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for children and families.
The first-place winner of this year’s “Justice for All” Awards Art and Design Contest will receive $1,500. The second-place winner gets $1,000, and the third-place prize is $500.
In addition to the cash prize, the first-place winner’s artwork will be featured on the Santa Clara County district attorney’s website and will be used in a campaign to raise awareness about the CACs. The top three winners will also be honored at an awards ceremony.
