Impact Awards

Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action (SVYCA) has been named a 2026 Nonprofit Impact Award recipient by the Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits.

SVYCA’s goal is to train and empower the next generation of climate leaders. Over the past several years, the student-led nonprofit has grown to more than 150 active youth members, expanded its programs and partnerships, and created more opportunities for young people across the South Bay to engage directly in climate education, advocacy and community action.

SVYCA will be celebrating with the other 2026 Nonprofit Impact Award recipients at the council’s “Be Our Guest!” gala on Thursday, Oct. 22. For more information on what the nonprofit is doing locally, visit https://bit.ly/4hIgERB.

Funding mental health

The Chinese American Coaltion for Compassionate Care was recently awarded a $10,000 grant to support development of a new mental health program. The grant from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation will help fund “Be Sensitive, Be Brave for Mental Health” and will launch the “Poetic Medicine for Grief” workshop.

These programs are designed to augment the Cupertino-based nonprofit’s suicide prevention efforts among Chinese American families in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. According to a press release, “These programs will aid in early intervention, teach vital coping skills, reduce societal stigma and improve overall mental and emotional well-being of families and individuals in the Chinese American community.”

The coalition is also hosting a virtual loss and grief workshop on Tuesdays, Nov. 3-Dec. 1, 6-8 p.m. To register, visit caccc-usa.org, email info@caccc-usa.org or call 866-661-5687.
