SAN JOSE – Two East Bay men have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this year in downtown San Jose, police said.
Detectives used automated license plate reader technology to identify 23-year-old Samuel Jordan and 21-year-old Cameron Haynes, both of Oakland, as suspects in the shooting, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release Friday.
Jordan was taken into custody on Oct. 8 in Oakland. Haynes, meanwhile, was already in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility for an unrelated incident, Hernandez said. They were arrested on suspicion of crimes including murder and attempted murder.
The shooting happened around 2:20 a.m. on May 31 at South First and East Reed streets in San Jose. Officers arrived to find a vehicle had collided with a building, as well as two men suffering from gunshot wounds and a third from crash-related injuries.
The men were taken to area hospitals, where one died from his injuries. The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner identified him as 38-year-old Cyril Hanna.
The death marked San Jose’s 10th homicide of 2026.
An investigation revealed the victims were traveling in a vehicle in the area when the suspects opened fire on them. Hernandez said the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
