“The ghost with the most” is returning to San Jose.
And you know that can only mean one thing, right?
It’s showtime!
So get ready for the return of the hit musical “Beetlejuice,” which Broadway San Jose presents March 31-April 5 at San Jose’s Center for the Performing Arts.
Most of you probably know the “Beetlejuice” backstory by this point, but we’ll go over it — briefly — one more time because it makes us smile.
The musical is based on the tremendous Tim Burton movie of the same name from 1988, which starred Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara and, of course, Michael Keaton in the title role.
The story centers on Lydia Deetz, a troubled teenager whose life is changed forever when she moves into a house that is also inhabited by a recently deceased couple. Then a demon by the name of Beetlejuice shows up and things really get nutty.
Toss in some disturbingly memorable and delightfully over-the-top Broadway songs — including “Creepy Old Guy,” “Say My Name,” “Dead Mom,” “Girl Scout,” “The Whole ‘Being Dead’ Thing” and, most famously, “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” — and what you get is a really fun night of theater.
