SAN JOSE — Dutch Bros has filed plans for another coffee shop in San Jose, this time at the site of a shuttered Burger King near The Plant shopping center.

According to a preliminary proposal at City Hall, the drive-thru coffee chain is looking to establish a presence at 2170 Monterey Rd.

“Dutch Bros will be very successful at this location,” said David Taxin, a partner with commercial real estate firm Meachan Oppenheimer, who arranged the lease at the site that Dutch Bros signed. “They have an approach that their followers just love.”

Dutch Bros has already proposed a drive-thru location at 2624 South Bascom Ave., a former Wendy’s fast-food restaurant, a filing with the city shows.

Both proposals involve a redevelopment and conversion of the existing structures.

The former Burger King building on Monterey Road totals about 2,700 square feet and occupies a 0.8-acre parcel. The drive-thru lane will accommodate the stacking of up to 20 vehicles.

The site will also have 33 parking spaces, down from the current 46 spaces, city plans show.

There will be no external speakers for taking orders and the coffee shop will not offer interior seating, planning documents state.

“Dutch Bros Coffee, known for their upbeat baristas and genuinely caring service, is a growing drive-through coffee company,” states a project narrative on file at the city.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, Dutch Bros has opened a location in Gilroy at 301 East 10th St.

The coffee chain operates more than 1,081 locations in 24 states and has over 24,000 employees, planning documents said.

“We are very excited about this,” Taxin said. “Dutch Bros is a great tenant and a great company. They do quadruple espresso shots and they are very popular with the younger generation.”
