State Assemblymember Alex Lee, a Milpitas High School alumnus, will return to his alma mater on March 26 for a question-and-answer session with students.
Hosted by the school’s Action for Change and Cantonese Culture Club, the event is being billed as an “opportunity to learn more about public service, civic engagement, Asian/Cantonese heritage and issues impacting our community.”

Skilled students
Three Milpitas high school students were among 143 students from Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) center received top scores to qualify for this year’s SkillsUSA California State Leadership and Skills Conference, taking place April 9-12 in Ontario, CA, where they’ll compete against the five other regions of California.
The gold medalists from that conference will attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference, June 1-5 in Atlanta.
Students earned their place at the state competition through outstanding performances at the regional level, which was hosted over five weekends on the Metropolitan Education District (MetroED) campus.
Milpitas High School student Swetha Dammalapati earned a gold medal in the medical math category, while Calaveras Hills High students Angel Garcia and Donovan Younathan medaled in Chapter Business Procedure.
Building community
Volunteer sign-ups are open for Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley’s National Rebuilding Day on Saturday, April 25, and Friday, May 1. Volunteers help with home maintenance and repairs for low-income residents and local nonprofits.
Before the April Rebuilding Day, volunteers are needed to help create kits for each project site, operate paint shakers to make sure paint is ready to go and stage supplies. Project site volunteers are needed on the day of the events, as are photographers and warehouse crew.
