SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — You’ll discover Chachi’s sandwiched in between Beach City Market and a laundromat.
This hidden gem is a San Pedro sandwich shop making waves in the South Bay community.
“San Pedro’s such a beautiful piece of coastline that we live on, and the community has been great to us,” co-owner Reece Soltani said.
“I think it was such an essential part of this community having a spot like this, not just for the food but for the gathering space outside, the sense of community,” co-owner Charles “Chachi” De La Cruz added.
De La Cruz and wife Soltani opened shop in 2024.
Seven sammies are on the menu, including everything from pastrami, tuna melts, a classic Italian sub, and grilled cheese.
They also feature a delicious veggie sandwich, and the fan favorite, turkey, which combines Havarti cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature cranberry walnut spread.
“It blends so perfectly,” ABC7’s Rachel Brown said.
While the menu is simple, the flavors are complex. Chachi’s doesn’t use mustard or mayo.
“We needed a way to figure out how to stand out,” Soltani said, adding they opted to offer a unique experience with house-made spreads.
“If you’re trying to produce something that you think as many people as possible will like, it’s often kind of generic and bland,” De La Cruz said. “If you produce something, that’s truly your own vision of what you want and just put that out there, I think people respond to that, to that authenticity.”
Sandwiches are eight-inches long, and cost $14 or $16.
You can pair them with a refreshing Shirazi salad that Soltani makes in house.
And for dessert, we have to take a moment to talk about this chocolate mousse.
“This is actually perfect,” Brown said.
“It’s decadent,” Soltani said. “It’s delicious.”
“It’s so delicious,” Brown added.
“There are a lot of good traditional sandwiches in San Pedro, but I think we’re doing something that’s really new and really innovative and delicious,” De La Cruz said . “So we’re just, yeah, we’re proud of what we’re putting out there.”
Chachi’s opens at 11 a.m., seven days a week.
The shop will expand to a bigger space in San Pedro soon. If you want to support them and to learn more, visit their store or EatChachis.com.
