Omakase, Mexican style, is returning to Copita Tequileria y Comida on Willow Glen’s restaurant row, with a gourmet tasting menu for a limited number of diners once a month.
Chef Azari Cuenca-Maitret, the Mexico City star who moved to San Jose to launch the rooftop restaurant in 2023, first introduced this exclusive taco-tasting experience last fall. “Tacomakase” is named after the Japanese omakase tradition in which diners give themselves over to the talents and whims of the chef.
Copita’s first Tacomakase menu for 2026 features Chicharron with queso fresco, squash blossom, guacamole and Cascabel chile sauce; Zucchini with grilled queso Cotija, roasted tomato salsa and chipotle aioli; tuna “Carnitas” with guacamole and adobo chipotle aioli; shrimp with cabbage, pickled onion and macha aioli; a Chef’s Choice; and Medjool Dates with Oaxacan chocolate.
The multi-course meal, $60 per person, is limited to 10 guests on the last Wednesday of each month. Reservations are a must for the 6:30 p.m. rooftop seating. Beverage pairings are available.
