SAN JOSE – A 24-year-old Morgan Hill man has been re-arrested in connection with a Feb. 8 shooting in downtown San Jose that left two others dead, police said.

The suspect, identified as Aaron Anthony Ocampo, was first arrested shortly after the shooting on suspicion of murder, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release Tuesday. However, he was later released pending additional follow up.

“Detectives conducted comprehensive follow up and later obtained a warrant for his arrest for manslaughter,” Shih said.

Ocampo self-surrendered to detectives on Sunday and was booked into county jail.

The shooting was reported around 2:20 a.m. on Feb. 8 in the 100 block of Paseo de San Antonio, near South Third Street. At the time, the area was experiencing a surge in nightlife related to Super Bowl 60, which was held later that day in Santa Clara.

Officers arrived to find two men with gunshot wounds. They died at the scene and were later identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as Nickolas Amador Banuelos, 37, and Raymond Patrick Aguirre, 29, both of San Jose and cousins.

The motive and circumstance surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, Shih said.
