A historic tall ship in Chula Vista has been given a temporary reprieve from eviction.

The schooner “Bill of Rights” has been docked in the South Bay since 2013 and will remain for now after marina officials backed off a lease termination notice issued last month.

The ship is used to teach youth sailing and support Sea Cadet training, and officials say discussions are ongoing about a long-term agreement. The notice had sparked backlash from community members and a petition urging marina leaders to reconsider.

The vessel is operated by a local nonprofit that provides hands-on maritime education for students across the region.
