A woman died Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle in San Jose, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 8:09 p.m., when police responded to the intersection of White Road and Mt. McKinley Drive for reports of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian, according to a news release from the San Jose Police Department.

Investigators found that an adult man had been driving a 2005 Toyota westbound on Mt. McKinley Drive. The vehicle then hit the adult female pedestrian while making a turn onto southbound White Road. The woman had been crossing the street in the eastbound direction in the crosswalk.

Authorities transported the woman to a hospital, where she later died of her injuries, authorities added.

The Toyota’s driver stayed at the scene of the collision and was cooperative in the investigation, police said.

This collision marks San Jose’s 12th traffic death and 12th fatal collision of the year. It is also the fifth pedestrian death.
