Enchanting stories and sounds

Sunnyvale’s EnActe Arts is presenting a play that looks at the life of sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, from his days as a young dancer in Paris to his role as a global icon.

Written by Gowri Ramnarayan, who drew on her personal interviews and the artist’s memories, “Enchantment” blends live dance performance with Shankar’s original sitar recordings and compositions, performed by Bombay Jayashri.

The play runs April 17-18 at the EnActerium, 830 Stewart Drive, suite 183. For tickets and showtimes, visit https://bit.ly/4sl0mSa.

Later this month, EnActe Arts is hosting the Anirudh Varma Collective, a group that blends Indian classical, jazz and contemporary music. What began as a performing group has grown into a creative community, bringing together independent artists from various genres and disciplines.

The collective is set to perform at the EnActerium April 24-25. For tickets and showtimes, visit https://bit.ly/4sXCVzt.

Growth stage

Those looking to take the stage can enroll in Sunnyvale Community Players’ Audition Workshop this month.

Open to actors ages 14 and up at all experience levels, this two-session workshop, led by executive artistic director Thomas Times, will cover key audition skills including selecting and preparing a monologue and song, building a strong resume, slating, and staying calm and focused.

Participants will have the opportunity to perform both a monologue and a song and receive personalized, constructive feedback in a supportive, professional environment. An accompanist will be provided.

This workshop is especially valuable for those planning to audition for the Players’ upcoming season, and all participants will receive feedback on their next audition with the company.

Workshop dates are April 21, 6-10 p.m., and April 25, noon-5 p.m. Space is limited to allow for individualized attention. Register at https://bit.ly/4dxadAC.
