Sunnyvale art scenes
The Sunnyvale Art Club used it math skills in putting together an artwork to benefit San Jose’s Berryessa Union School District: 27 canvases painted by club members were mounted on three larger panels that will be displayed as a whole at the 49th annual Berryessa Art Festival on May 9. Each painting depicts a scene from within the city of Sunnyvale.
The festival is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Penitencia Creek Park, 3050 Berryessa Road, San Jose. This long-running community event features local artists, live entertainment, food and wine, with proceeds supporting district schools. Admission is free.
Community Award nominations
The City of Sunnyvale is accepting nominations for this year’s Community Awards in categories such as Distinguished Resident of the Year, Educator of the Year, High School Student of the Year and Businessperson or Business of the Year. These awards honor individuals and organizations who strengthen the Sunnyvale community through leadership, service and involvement.
Make a Community Award Nomination by June 1 at https://bit.ly/4szn88U. Award recipients will be recognized at the annual State of the City event in September.
Sun Flair Scavenger Hunt
As warmer weather hopefully settles in, the City of Sunnyvale is enticing people to explore parks and public art on a scavenger hunt for 26 Sun Flair sculptures across 13 locations.
Download a map and clue list at https://bit.ly/3QaVlOA or pick up a printed copy at the Sunnyvale Community Center, Senior Center, Columbia Neighborhood Center or Sunnyvale Public Library. Visit city parks to match each sculpture with its clue. The map shows the number of Sun Flair sculptures at each location. Turn in your completed sheet at the Sunnyvale Community Center by Aug. 31 to receive a Sun Flair prize.
