A 63-year-old San Jose man died after a four-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in the South Bay, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported around 3:15 p.m. on northbound State Highway 87, just south of Interstate 280, CHP officials said Monday.
Investigators said a 2003 Nissan Frontier traveling northbound rear-ended a 2021 Toyota Sienna, setting off a chain reaction that pushed the Toyota into two other vehicles. Those vehicles sustained moderate damage, authorities said.
The driver of the Toyota was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the CHP said. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Nissan was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
Alcohol or drugs are not believed to have been factors in the crash, according to investigators.
The crash led authorities to close two lanes on southbound Highway 87 for about two hours while crews responded and cleared the scene.
