BTS has been making time in between its sold-out Stanford Stadium concerts to explore the Bay Area — and one local business in particular won their hearts. 

The K-pop boy band visited Vesta, a pizza spot in Redwood City, on Monday, May 11. V, the group’s vocalist known for his love of pizza, later raved about the restaurant during BTS’ first concert.

“Next time we’re at Stanford, we’ll eat that yummy pizza,” he told the crowd on Saturday, May 16, though he did not specifically name-drop the restaurant. “I think Stanford’s got the best pizza.” 

Vesta co-owner Peter Borrone told the Chronicle that although the band never explicitly identified the eatery, BTS’ clever ARMY fan base recognized the group was talking about his restaurant and messaged him.

“That was crazy for them to open up like that,” he said. “They came in and they loved it … It was very random.”

Borrone, who opened Vesta 14 years ago with his wife, Courtney, said that the group came with an entourage of security and parked their SUVs down the street. They sat in the restaurant’s more private back dining room.

“They really enjoyed the food,” said Vesta employee Luis Valbivia, who was working on Monday during their visit. 

Valbivia noted that they ordered several pizzas including three orders of Vesta’s popular Sausage & Honey pie. 

Borrone said that the restaurant hadn’t posted on social media about BTS’ visit yet in hopes the seven-member group would return before their final show on Tuesday, May 19.

Vesta wasn’t the only local hot spot the band has visited over the past week.  

Earlier last week, fans spotted BTS at the Hub Pickleball Club in San Jose. Several photos and videos shared to social media show members dressed down in basketball shorts, baseball caps and hoodies as they faced off against each other. 

Then, on Saturday, Jin shared an Instagram post of himself eating a churro and pretzel at California’s Great America. The post also featured several photos of him sitting on a bench near the amusement park’s iconic double decker Carousel Columbia and in front of several roller coasters. 

BTS — made up of Jung Kook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM, Jin and J-Hope — is in the middle of its massive global comeback tour that marks the band’s first full-scale return to performing since 2022. The seven-member group’s string of Stanford shows is its first Bay Area run since their 2018 “Love Yourself” tour stop in Oakland.

In support of their new album, “Arirang,” released on March 20, the tour moves on to Las Vegas next with stops also in Japan, Europe, the United Kingdom, Latin America and Australia. 

ARMY members who didn’t have the chance to snag tickets to BTS’ local shows will still have an opportunity to connect with the group this fall, when RM’s personal art collection goes on display at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. 

“RM x SFMOMA” is set to open in October and will bring 200 pieces from the musician’s personal collection to San Francisco for the first time.
