Fire breaks out in the foothills east of San Jose

SAN JOSE – Crews on Wednesday night battled a wildfire in the foothills east of San Jose.

The blaze broke out around 9:05 p.m. in the 5000 block of Sierra Road, according to the San Jose Fire Department.

In an update around 9:30 p.m., the agency said the fire was 5 acres in size with a “slow rate of spread.” No structures were threatened.

The Cal Fire Santa Clara Unit and Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department joined SJFD in battling the blaze.

Forward progress on the right flank of the fire was stopped just before 10 p.m., according to SJFD.

The agency asked people to avoid the area while they work to extinguish the blaze.
