Being green

Milpitas Library patrons can learn how to compost and create terrariums on July 18.

A Master Gardener will give a talk from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on the essentials of making and using compost. Attendees can learn how compost improves soil structure, aids moisture retention and supplies slow-release nutrients, and can join composting experts to explore backyard and worm composting through live demonstrations.

Library patron ages 13 and older can make mason jar terrariums at an Adult and Teen Crafternoon from 3-4:30 p.m. These terrariums won’t be home to living plants or fungi, but will instead house a mushroom nature scene created by its maker. No registration is required; walk-ins are welcome while supplies last.
