Karol G is having a huge year.
In April, the Colombian reggaeton-pop artist became the first Latina to headline Southern California’s massive Coachella music festival, drawing rave reviews from both the press and the fans in attendance.
Karol G has also just released her sixth studio album, “No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto” (translation: “I Don’t Regret Feeling So Much”). The record, which hit stores Aug. 7, features guest appearances from Drake, Bruno Mars, Judeline, Rusowsky and Greg Gonzalez from Cigarettes After Sex.
And she’s out on the road with one of the biggest concert tours of the year — the Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour — which touches down for two nights in the Bay Area.
Karol G performs Aug. 21-22 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Judging by the reports we’ve seen from recent shows, the Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour is mostly focused on supporting Karol G’s chart-topping fifth album — last year’s “Tropicoqueta” — and only includes one track (“Si lo ven”) from the new record.
Becky G, who is known for such singles as “Por el Contrario” and “Mercedes,” opens the show. And, no, they are not related — the “G” in both of their stage names is purely coincidental. (Becky G’s last name is Gomez and Karol’s G stands for her paternal last name, Giraldo.)
Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets start at $132 (subject to change), ticketmaster.com.
