Apple revealed plans to eliminate a combined 147 jobs at three different South Bay locations, including its headquarters, an official filing with the state Employment Development Department shows.
The layoffs, described as permanent, are scheduled for Oct. 19 and will affect workers in Sunnyvale and the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, according to a WARN notice.
Apple’s last round of reported layoffs in California occurred in June, when the trimmed 57 jobs in San Diego, state data shows.
The latest reductions from Apple, which include numerous software workers, arrive on the heels of a loss of 4,400 tech jobs in the Bay Area during July, according to seasonally adjusted estimates that Beacon Economics derived from the official monthly state EDD report.
The Bay Area tech layoffs in July included losses of 1,700 tech jobs in the San Francisco-San Mateo region, another 1,700 in the East Bay and 800 in the South Bay, the estimates showed.
Software engineers, machine learning researchers, and tools and automation engineers were among the types of workers whose jobs Apple eliminated.
Apple has decided to eliminate 79 jobs at its Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, another 40 positions at 605 West Maude Ave. in Sunnyvale, and another 28 jobs at 599 North Mathilda Ave. in Sunnyvale.
“The impacted employees are not represented by a labor organization, and no contractual bumping rights exist,” Apple stated in its WARN letter.
