SAN JOSE — A man with a long string of burglary convictions was arrested Aug. 20 on suspicion of vandalism and attempted burglary, just a month after being granted supervised release in a pending case for allegedly breaking into Burger King and Chuck E. Cheese restaurants earlier in the summer, authorities said.
Jonny Miles, a 42-year-old resident of San Jose, has been convicted of a long string of burglary, theft and other cases spanning back to 2004, with several convictions since 2020 for carrying out a combined 36 counts of burglary, according to police and court records. Miles has since been charged with two counts of vandalism and two counts of second degree burglary spanning two separate cases filed in July and August.
Just before 5 a.m. on Aug. 17, police responded to the 3100 block of Senter Road, where they found that a man had thrown a brick through a business’s front door, authorities said. The incident resulted in thousands of dollars of damages.
The suspect fled before police arrived but was later identified as Miles, authorities said. The investigation also linked him to several other incidents, including an Aug. 18 attempted burglary in which Miles allegedly kicked down the front door of a business on the 1600 block of East Capitol Expressway and threw a rock before fleeing the scene.
In July, SJPD arrested Miles on suspicion of carrying out three residential burglaries over the prior month — while he was in the process of allegedly commiting a fourth, authorities added. In two of those incidents, Miles allegedly entered a Burger King and a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant intending to commit theft, according to court documents.
In that case, Miles was charged on July 15 and granted supervised release on July 16 with a court date scheduled for October, according to court records.
Miles’ previous convictions were for burglarizing a wide range of locations, including restaurants such as Chick-Fil-A, Dunkin’ Donuts and local eateries, according to court filings.
Following his most recent arrest, Miles was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of burglary. He remains in custody on no bail status.
