SAN JOSE — A bicyclist died following a collision with a dump truck on Thursday morning, authorities said.
The collision occurred in the area of Tully Road and Lanai Avenue, according to the San Jose Police Department. The incident was reported to police at 7:45 a.m.
The preliminary investigation found that an adult man was driving a white 2012 Freightliner truck in a westbound direction on Tully Road, authorities said. As the truck was approaching the on-ramp of Highway 101 and passing through the intersection with Lanai Avenue, it hit a man riding an electric bicycle westbound in the bike lane.
The bicyclist died at the scene of the collision, authorities said. Authorities did not publicly name the person killed pending confirmation of their identity and notification of their next of kin.
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and was cooperative with SJPD’s investigation, authorities added. Police do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role.
Tully Road between South King Road and the Highway 101 on-ramp was closed for an extended period Thursday morning while authorities investigated the collision.
The incident marked San Jose’s 32nd traffic-related death and 32nd fatal collision of 2026, authorities added.
