SAN JOSE — A former Amy’s Kitchen site in East San Jose was bought by a Bay Area real estate firm that has become active in acquiring South Bay industrial properties.
Lift Partners, through an affiliate, paid just under $18.4 million for the building at 1885 Las Plumas Ave., documents filed on Sept. 9 with the Santa Clara County Recorder’s Office show.
Amy’s Kitchen leased the 74,000-square-foot building in March 2021 for uses such as a food production center. In July 2022, the frozen food maker ceased operations and laid off 331 workers.
“This industrial asset underwent significant food manufacturing improvements in 2021 by Devcon Construction,” real estate executive Jacob Sanchez stated in a marketing brochure.
The building occupies a 5.8-acre site that includes a significant amount of surface parking.
The property is zoned light industrial, a designation whose intended uses are warehouses, wholesaling, and light manufacturing. A special use permit could allow other uses.
A few months ago, Lift Partners paid $25.8 million for an industrial development site at 651 Martin Ave. in Santa Clara, according to commercial real estate firm JLL. The property could accommodate data center, manufacturing and warehouse operations.
The strategy that Lift Partners is contemplating for the 1885 Las Plumas site wasn’t immediately known.
