Rotary summit
Rotary District 5170 is holding its inaugural summit on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The gathering is designed to spark cross-club collaboration, introduce prospective members to Rotary and highlight the impact of local clubs.
The summit will bring together Rotary clubs from throughout the district alongside the community partners they work with. A Project Fair will let attendees meet dozens of nonprofits and service organizations, learn about their missions and discover ways to get involved.
Speakers include Vicki Puliz, a Rotary International trustee, and Wyn Spiller, a Rotary International director. Jagi Shahani of Cupertino Rotary will highlight the club’s water project.

A healthy investment
Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) has received a $500,000 first-year investment from Sutter Health as part of a three-year partnership to strengthen healthcare career pathways and expand opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with real-world careers. Sutter Health has committed an additional $250,000 for the second year of the partnership, with third-year funding to be determined.
The first-year investment will support approximately 250 students across five SVCTE healthcare pathways. Funding will support updated equipment and curriculum, career-connected learning opportunities, student mentorship and expanded work-based learning experiences designed to prepare students for future careers in healthcare.

ROSE GARDEN: Playful People Productions is hosting its annual fundraising gala, “The Magic Is Us,” on Sept. 19 at the Saratoga Foothill Club. The San Jose-based company is in its 16th season of creating family-friendly theater experiences.
