Exploring an ‘Empty Nest’

Instead of pearls, the traditional 30th anniversary gift, Clay Hausmann gave his wife a one-man comedy show about their life. Hausmann is bringing “Empty Nest and All the Rest” to City Lights Theater Company in downtown San Jose on Oct. 11.

Created after his children left for college, Hausmann’s show explores what happens when decades of active parenting come to an end.

The show hits the City Lights stage at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $37-$42 at cltc.org/nest. City Lights subscribers receive 20% off admission. City Lights Theater is located at 529 S. Second St.

Neighborhood Notes

ROSE GARDEN>>Bellarmine College Preparatory is again partnering with Silicon Valley Safe Park, a network of faith-based communities that offer a safe, overnight parking place for neighbors living in their vehicles. The private school, which has participated in this program since 2018, is opening its parking lot through the month of October for this purpose.

Every guest is prescreened by Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice and Empowerment, which also provides year-round case management to help participants find stable housing and long-term solutions. Bellarmine students and staff serve hot breakfasts on weekday mornings and host a weekly community dinner to share conversation and support.

On Monday-Thursday, guests check in at 9:15 p.m. and check out at 6:30 a.m. On Friday-Sunday nights, check-in is at 8:15 p.m., and check-out is at 7:30 a.m. Space is limited to 15 vehicles, and Bellarmine’s guest list remains largely the same throughout the month.

All guests sign a “Rules and Agreements” covenant promising to respect themselves, one another and the Bellarmine community. Copies are available on request..
