SAN JOSE — A man died Friday from injuries he suffered nearly three weeks ago when he was hit by a driver in San Jose, police said.
The incident happened around 7:50 p.m. on Sept. 13 near the intersection of South King Road and Biscayne Way, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, she said. While the man was later stabilized, he died from his injuries last week.
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin are notified.
Shih said an investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing South King Road outside a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a driver traveling northbound in a 2014 Chevrolet SS.
The male driver stayed at the scene, called 911 and cooperated with the investigation, Shih said, adding that police do not suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The incident marked the city’s 39th traffic fatality of 2026. At this point last year, police had investigated 27 traffic fatalities on city streets.
