Center Macklin Celebrini was a late scratch from the San Jose Sharks’ lineup for their game against the Dallas Stars on Monday with a lower-body injury.
Celebrini took part in warmups at American Airlines Center, where he joined the Sharks’ top line with wingers Will Smith and Mason Marchment. Usually the last player on the ice during warmups, Celebrini left earlier than normal. It wasn’t immediately clear when or how Celebrini got injured or how severe his ailment is.
It was unclear whether Celebrini would have to miss any more games. After the Sharks’ 5-0 loss to the Stars, coach Ryan Warsofsky didn’t shed much light on the severity of Celebrini’s injury, only saying, “We’ll evaluate tonight and (Tuesday) and see where he’s at.”
Ty Dellandrea, a healthy scratch for the Sharks’ first two games, replaced Celebrini in the lineup and finished with two hits, one blocked shot, while winning three of 11 faceoffs in 14:20 of ice time. Alexander Wennberg took Celebrini’s spot as the Sharks’ top-line center for the first period, but was replaced in that spot by Dellandrea.
The 20-year-old Celebrini, named the Sharks’ captain late last month, has been the team’s leading scorer in each of his first two NHL seasons and set a franchise record last season with 115 points in 82 games. The last time Celebrini missed a game for the Sharks was Nov. 2, 2024, when he was still recovering from a lower-body injury. Celebrini missed 12 games in total, and the Sharks went 3-8-1 during that time. They finished with the NHL’s worst record that year at 20-50-12.
Since then, Celebrini played in 153 consecutive games until Monday.

Celebrini came into Monday as the Sharks’ leading scorer with five points, all assists, in two games. He also led the team with 22:20 in average ice time, as the Sharks earned overtime wins over the Florida Panthers and Los Angeles Kings.
The Sharks are scheduled to practice on Tuesday in Dallas and Wednesday in St. Louis before they play the Blues on Thursday to end their two-game road trip.
The Sharks trailed the Stars 1-0 at the end of the first period as defenseman Miro Heiskanen took a pass from Roope Hintz and, from below the goal line, bounced a shot off goalie Yaroslav Askarov with 1:09 left for his second goal of the season.
Askarov thought he had the puck after stopping a shot from Stars captain Jamie Benn, but Hintz stole it and fed an open Heiskanen. The Stars gained control of the puck in their own after a giveaway from Sharks defenseman Dmitry Orlov.
The Sharks killed a hooking penalty to Tyler Toffoli but were outshot 11-2 in the first 20 minutes.
The Sharks were down 3-0 by the 6:19 mark of the second period after allowing goals to Joel Kiviranta and Benn. With 4:49 left in the second period, the Stars led 49-17 in shot attempts.
