SAN JOSE — A woman stabbed her spouse in Hollister, carjacked two vehicles, then fled at high speeds along South Bay roads before stabbing herself fatally next to a San Jose freeway on Saturday, police said.
The incident was first reported around 10 a.m. on Saturday when the state CHP received a report of a wrong-way driver in the area of Hollister and the Casa de Fruta historic resort, roadway attraction and fruit stand.
A 34-year-old female assaulted her spouse with a knife in Hollister, said CHP Sgt. Cary Martin. The woman then took her sister’s vehicle “by force” and then fled that location, Martin said.
The woman was driving on the wrong side of State Route 152 and hit a vehicle head-on just west of Casa de Fruta, according to the CHP. The head-on collision involved a Chevrolet SUV, a CHP incident log states.
The woman then exited her sister’s vehicle and carjacked a bystander who was not involved in any of the prior incidents. The woman fled the scene.
Soon after racing away from Casa de Fruta, the 34-year-old female bypassed vehicles on the right-hand shoulder and cut off other cars, CHP incident logs posted on Saturday show.
Gilroy police then located the carjacked vehicle and began chasing the woman, who reportedly was in a Honda Accord at that point. Gilroy police, however, lost track of the speeding vehicle.
Subsequently, the vehicle came to a stop on the shoulder of northbound U.S. Highway 101 just south of Bernal Road in San Jose, Sgt. Martin said.
The unidentified female inflicted several stab wounds to herself after exiting her vehicle on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Bernal Road in south San Jose, the California Highway Patrol and San Jose police stated.
Several people called 911 and reported the woman was stabbing herself, Sgt. Martin said.
San Jose police officers arrived on the scene and encountered the woman. She was transported to Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to the CHP.
The investigation into the incidents is ongoing, CHP officers stated.
