SAN JOSE – Authorities on Wednesday announced the arrest of four suspects in connection with a gang-motivated assault with a deadly weapon over the summer in San Jose.

The incident happened around 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 24 in the 1500 block of Bahama Way, according to San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih.

The victim, a man, was walking in the area when the suspects, a man and three boys, approached him, Shih said, adding that the suspects believed the victim was a rival gang member and chased after him.

One of the suspects pulled out a knife and tried to stab the victim in the neck, Shih said.

The victim managed to escape and hide from the suspects, who left the area before officers arrived.

A police investigation found that two of the suspects were also involved in a gang-motivated robbery and assault with a deadly weapon on Aug. 30 in the area of Clarice and Huran drives, Shih said. The victim in that case was a boy.

The suspects were identified as San Jose residents, ages 19, 18, 16 and 14, Shih said. The 18-year-old was a juvenile at the time of the Aug. 24 incident, according to police.

On Nov. 20, authorities arrested the 16-year-old suspect in Santa Cruz and the others in San Jose. Gang material and items stolen in the Aug. 30 incident were also recovered.

The 19-year-old suspect was booked into Santa Clara County jail on multiple charges, including gang-motivated assault with a deadly weapon and robbery. The others were booked into juvenile hall on a charge of gang-motivated assault with a deadly weapon.
