Although you can still grab a loaf of Olde Hearth Bread Company‘s stellar sourdough at a farmers market from Winter Park to Windermere and well beyond, it’s been quite some time since Orlando’s first artisan baker had a permanent stall or storefront for fans of said freshness to enjoy.
Come May, they’ll be back.
And residents in and around Orlando’s Ivanhoe Village neighborhood (and those who will doubtless make the trip) will be able to pick up batards and danishes and peerless sourdough boules on the regular.
The new Olde Hearth Bread Company on Ivanhoe Row, at 1231 N. Orange Ave., will feature freshly baked items delivered each morning from their main bakery in Casselberry, the same one that supplies all kinds of goodies to hundreds of Central Florida restaurants, from mom-and-pop to massive hotels.
Husband-and-wife bakers/owners Shannon and Janice Talty’s retail expansion slides into the space most recently occupied by the pet-centric House of Sploot, a biscuit’s throw from where the bakers of Backhaus used to sling their brand of Bavarian baked bites a few years back.
Folks in the Ivanhood and adjoining areas should celebrate — the Taltys are the original.

“Nobody in Orlando was making natural breads when we first opened 28 years ago,” said founder Shannon Talty in a news release. “There’s a culinary scene now. Michelin knows what Orlando has to offer, and people appreciate a crusty ciabatta or flaky Danish. We’re just making it easier for folks to get what they want.”

Add to that the black olive batards (my fave!), chocolate chip cookies, fruit tarts and more, as well as the opportunity for the Taltys to innovate.
With the purchase of a new, small-batch artisan mixer, experimentation will be the name of the game.
“We can play around with ancient grain breads and seasonal pastry recipes, get some over-the-counter feedback, express our creative side and see what clicks with the neighborhood.”
Look for a mid-May opening.
