The new Michelin Guide for Texas has been revealed. Austin, Houston and San Antonio banded together with Dallas and Fort Worth to bring the secretive restaurant rating service to Texas last year, with each city’s convention and visitor’s bureau doling out thousands in a move expected to entice travelers to visit the Lone Star State.

While Michelin gave out at least one star to almost every city in 2024, no restaurant holds onto its accolade year to year. Michelin started anew in 2025 and chose to add to its existing guide.

No restaurant was removed from the 2025 Texas Michelin Guide. There were only additions, and in one case, a San Antonio restaurant, Nicosi, rose from Recommended to earn a star.

The highest rating achieved across the state was a 1 star, with 18 restaurants between Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio receiving the distinction that identifies establishments with exceptional cuisine. One of the new starred restaurants added to Michelin’s list in 2025 was Mamani, a restaurant that has been open in Dallas for less than two months. Once again, there were no 2-star or 3-star accolades, the highest Michelin achievements, in Texas.

Fort Worth once again did not receive a star. It also was the only city to not have a new restaurant added to the Bib Gourmand or Recommended ranks.

Three Austin restaurants and one in San Antonio received Green Star nods for restaurants pursuing sustainable gastronomy.

Statewide, there were 52 Bib Gourmand restaurants for restaurants offering good quality at a good value, that’s eight more restaurants than Michelin had in its 2024 guide. The rule of thumb is that a diner at a Bib Gourmand restaurant can have two courses, along with a glass of wine or dessert, for about $50 before tax or tip to gain this designation.

Seventy restaurants were selected as “Recommended” by Michelin. Recommended signals restaurants that were still of-note to inspectors, but did not qualify for a star-rating or Bib Gourmand.

There were four special awards extended by Michelin to individuals in the industry. Those were as follows: Chas Martin of Mister Charles (and co-owner of Duro Hospitality) won the Michelin Exceptional Cocktails Award; Celia Pellegrini of Este/Suerte in Austin, the Michelin Sommelier Award; Elliot Wood of Credence in Houston, the Michelin Outstanding Service Award; and Chuck Charnichart of Barbs B Q in Lockhart, the Michelin Young Chef/Culinary Professional Award.

Michelin inspectors evaluate restaurants on five criteria: product quality; mastery of cooking techniques; harmony of flavors; the personality of the chef as reflected in the cuisine; and consistency over time and across the entire menu. Michelin says the same consistency and fairness are applied in any market as much as they are in Paris or New York.

Houston added the most new accolades with 14; Austin, 8; San Antonio, 6; and Dallas, 2.

Here’s a look at the Michelin restaurants in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio, presented by city in alpha order.
