The Dallas Design District will welcome a new addition next month with Puerto Cocina & Bar, a restaurant offering dishes inspired by the cuisine of Baja California.
The project focused on one of Mexico’s most innovative culinary regions is the brainchild of restaurateurs Mauricio Gallegos and Gerardo Barrera. The duo is also behind Xaman Café and Ayahuasca Cantina, two establishments known for their authentic Mexican cuisine in Dallas.
“We want to continue creating spaces that celebrate our Mexican cultural heritage and convey that history through food, art, and design,” Barrera said in a news release.
The menu at Puerto Cocina & Bar will be “elevated but accessible,” paying homage to the cuisine of the Baja California peninsula. The region is located in the northwest corner of Mexico and is known for combining fresh flavors and ingredients with seafood.

The menu will include a raw bar, crudos and tiraditos, house-made tortillas, and an emphasis on various shellfish and roe/caviar, all part of the “Baja-style cuisine” that has gained international prestige for its elegant simplicity and focus on the product.
The restaurant’s wine selection will be another distinctive feature, as it will offer a 100% Mexican wine list with labels from the Guadalupe Valley, Baja California Sur, Querétaro and Coahuila. In addition, the cocktail program will be inspired by Ayahuasca Cantina, combining regional flavors with modern techniques to create innovative drinks.
