This column started off focused on new flavors around Tarrant County and, before I knew it, I was looking over Casa Azul’s coffee menu. Why? Because I couldn’t shake the idea of making today’s theme “Something old, something new, something revamped and something blue.” The result is a somewhat random collection of options, catering to every taste bud.
Yes, I’m aware the cliche uses the term “borrowed” and not “revamped,” but you can’t blame me for taking some artistic license, right?
We’ve got a coffee shop anniversary as this week’s “something old” and a teaser for an upcoming Chinese restaurant acting as our “new.” “Revamped” refers to an eatery in Keller that has been reshaped and is reopening. Lastly, we’ve got Casa Azul, which speaks for itself — in Spanish.
Traditional Chinese restaurant coming to Fort Worth this summer
The traditional Chinese restaurant Wu Wei Din will add a Fort Worth spot this summer, according to its website. You can sample what’s to come from this Asian cuisine stop at locations in Plano and Lewisville. The local chain will expand into Tarrant County in July with a site off Northeast Loop 820.
Along with appetizers like cucumber salad, fried pork chop and crab rangoon, the menu includes a section dedicated to “America’s favorite Chinese dishes.” These include classics such as kung pao shrimp and orange chicken, as well as Mongolian shrimp and chicken with garlic sauce.
Soups, potstickers, dumplings, wontons, noodles and many iterations of fried rice also appear, as do desserts of fried sesame balls, sesame cake, taro dumplings and ice cream.

Avoca Coffee Roasters celebrates 15 years on Magnolia Avenue
March 7 marks Avoca Coffee Roasters’ 15th anniversary on Magnolia Avenue.
“When I think about the last 15 years,” microroastery owner Craig Morgan said in a release, “I think about all the ways Magnolia has transformed and how Avoca has grown alongside it. This has always been a labor of love.”
All Avoca locations will serve an Iced Birthday Cake Latte and other specialty drinks March 7 to mark the occasion, while Denton and Magnolia Avenue spots will also showcase local vendors and live music.
Of the Magnolia location’s more unique menu items are the Charlie Sheen, which combines their Noir cold brew with Mexican Coke, and the Bourbon Butterscotch Latte featuring TX Bourbon.

Tex-Mex eatery reopens in Keller
According to the city of Keller’s email newsletter, there’s a new — well, revamped — Tex-Mex and American food joint in Keller. Judge Beans Restaurant Cantina is evidently a reworked version of Judge Beans, a restaurant that also served Tex-Mex and American fare, and announced in a Facebook post last week that they are starting off with a soft opening “before we throw the kind of grand opening that makes Main Street nervous.”
Chicken fried steak and fajitas were highlighted in the post, but of course their menu includes other options. Among them are quesadilla and bacon cheese fries starters, burgers and sandwiches, steaks, ribs, enchiladas and seafood.
The dishes listed on their website are different from those shared on their social media pages in early February, which included an additional brunch menu. Brunch options range from the usual omelets, pancakes, French toast and oatmeals to chilaquiles, papas con huevos and machaca.

Matcha-Colada and churro lattes at Casa Azul Coffee
The little blue coffee shop neighboring the Historic Stockyards, Casa Azul Coffee, prides itself on serving coffee “infused with the vibrancy and richness of the Latino culture,” according to its website.
Order online and you’ll see a churro latte with vanilla, powdered cinnamon, espresso and cajeta, or Mexican caramel, drizzle. This is listed online as one of their specialty drinks, as is their shaken espresso, which can come hot or over ice with your selection of flavored syrups.
They do cold brew, Americanos and a Matcha-Colada, which is a matcha latte with coconut milk, pineapple juice and agave syrup.
